This domed building is the headquarters for the George Enescu
Philharmonic. The beautiful interior features a rotunda with ornate
staircases. The concert hall can seat 600 people and also contains 60
boxes. A large mural showing Romanian history is another feature. Many
locals attend the classical musical concerts held here.

Hanul Lui Manuc (Manuc s Inn).
Originally built as an inn, this 19th century building now contains a
hotel and restaurant. The courtyard houses an outdoor café where you
can enjoy light refreshments. The restaurant has a balcony that
overlooks the courtyard. There is also a fine wine cellar. The inn is
named after the first owner, Manuc who was a wealthy Armenian trader.
One of the most notable events at this location was the signing of the
1812 Russian-Turkish Peace Treaty
George Enescu Museum
Located at the Cantacuzino Palace, there are artifacts of composer
George Enescu. You will find his personal belongings, instruments,
musical scores, letters of commendation and Romanian medals he was
awarded. George was married to Princess Maria Cantacuzino and he lived
in three rooms in the palace. These rooms contain all the exhibits.
Muzeul Theodor Aman (Theodor Aman Museum)
Absolutely everything was created by Theodor Aman. He even constructed
the building. Today, you will find his paintings, etchings and
sculptures. Aman had spent several years in Paris before he came back to
set up the Romanian Academy of Fine Arts. The building was finished in
1869 and he lived there until the time of his death.
Muzeul Militar National (Military Museum)
There are over one million exhibits showing flags, medals, uniforms,
equipment, maps, mobile kitchens, guns and combat equipment. Of
particular interest is the Soyuz-40 capsule used by astronaut Dumitru
Prunariu when he rode in space in May 1981. You will also see air force
planes and helicopters along with rockets and torpedoes. There is a
section on the revolution where you can see uniforms and other items.

Muzeul Satului (Village Museum)
Located along the shores of Herastrau Lake is this beautiful open-air
museum. More than 300 authentic houses, barns, workshops and mills were
moved from all over Romania and placed in this neighborhood. You will
see homes and personal belongings of peasants from various regions to
show visitors the wide array of regional folk styles. Plan on spending
the entire day here.
Zambaccian Museum
A fine collection of Romanian art left by KH Zambaccian to the state in
1946. His beautiful residence contains the works of Romanian artists
such as Constantin Brancusi, Nicolae Grigorescu, and Stefan Luchian.
There is some artwork from Paris artists, namely Renoir, Picasso, and
Bonnard. This extensive collection is certainly a treasure to see.
Muzeul Taranului Roman (Romanian Peasant Museum)
Winner of the 1996 s European Museum of the Year award, this museum is
worth a visit. You will see handmade tools, pottery, costumes and rugs.
You can’t miss the famous painted eggs. There are the interiors of two
wooden churches along with numerous depictions of Christ and the Virgin
Mary. All the exhibits are creatively displayed and represent a
wonderful collection of peasant handicrafts.
Muzeul de Istorie si Arta al Municipiului Bucuresti/Palatul Sutu
(History & Art Museum)
Housed in the Sutu Palace, you will find a fine collection of old coins,
furniture, costumes, weapons and postcards. There is also Romanian
artwork both medieval and contemporary. In addition, you will find
oriental art and printed works. The library has over 40,000 books. This
museum depicts life in Bucharest during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Grigore Antipa Museum of Natural History
Founded in 1904, this museum is devoted to the history of animals and
minerals. The highlights are a skeleton of a dinosaur (15 feet high) and
a rare butterfly collection. There are over 30,000 items on exhibit,
which include a cave, murals, and mummies. This is one of the first
natural history museums established in the world.

Relaxed red-brick, cellar bar, popular with school kids. The DJ plays a
good mix of mainstream music from Kurt Cobain to Cat Stevens. On
Wednesdays there s acid jazz, on Sundays dirty-dance to copacabana-ritmo
Latino music. Live bands play on weekends. Call ahead if you want to sit
at a table.

An unmarked steel door next to the incaltaminte (shoe) shop leads to
this popular big blue cellar bar. Run by the university s architectural
faculty, with a different theme every night of the week. Admission
increases towards the end of the week. Women enjoy free entrance on Mon,
Thr, Sun.

Club Maxx is cool. Truly, thanks to great air conditioning. A trendy,
studenty crowd (this area is student-dorm central), dancing to Latin
music. The programme varies throughout the week.
Disco Club Herastrau

The disco where the length of mini-skirts dips well under international
safety levels. Advertised as the disco that is as hot as some like it ,
Disco Herastrau is infamous for the other kind of fun that some ladies
have in mind. No, not chess. Play it safe by eating Romanian grub on the
terrace overlooking the lake (restaurant open 10:00 - 22:30) or by
watching the daily folklore show (20:00 - 22:00).
